Callie turned away from the group and walked slow and stately to enter the big Renault some way away. Whispering fiercely, the others followed... more questions than answers, arguments, suggestions, shrugs and counter shrugs. Hamish pulled the big bus round in a tight circle answering the occasional question in single syllables as Callie sat unanswering staring out of the side window, her eyes inward looking, calm, knowing...

Soon the cabin was quiet as the car followed the road to the valley leaving the cliff empty and quiet in the baking sun as if nothing had happened.

Far to the south and west a white bird circled at enormous height... found her direction and headed toward the sun.
